Garry Brav
Principal / Visionary
After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Garry spent six months traveling around the country, visiting college friends, and strategizing his future. When he returned to Tucson, he had an opportunity to be an extra in the movie “Catch 22” that was going to be filmed in San Carlos, Mexico. While on the set for 4 months he developed a business plan and drew design plans for what became The Balcony Saloon on 4th Ave. Upon successfully building and running the bar and restaurant for 18 months, he sold The Balcony.
In 1973, Garry established Brav & Foreman Construction Company, Inc. He bought a lot on Tucson’s east side and built a spec home; commercial tenant improvements around the city were next.
BFL Construction Company, Inc. was established in 1977 when Brav & Foreman formed a new company with Lazar Construction, a New York based national tenant improvements contractor expanding to Arizona. Shortly thereafter Lazar became NICO Construction Company listed on the Nasdaq. A year later NICO bought Lehigh Valley Industries, saving it from being delisted on the NYSE and changed the name to LVI Group. Garry served as Executive Vice President for Arizona, New Mexico and Kansas for LVI and in 1984 he purchased the stock owned by LVI.
Under Garry’s leadership BFL expanded the business from tenant improvements to multi-million-dollar commercial projects in almost every market category but mainly focused on Medical & Hospital projects throughout Southern Arizona. In 2011 Garry launched BFL Builders, a new division which has developed and built over 8000 affordable, market rate multi-family units in Southern Arizona and metro-Phoenix under the Avilla brand, currently being built by NexMetro.
In 2019 Garry accepted a purchase offer from JV Driver, a billion-dollar Canadian Construction Group, and agreed to stay on for 5 years which was fulfilled in 2023.
After 50 years at BFL and now free to move in a new direction, Garry began assembling 100 Acres on I-10 and Prince Rd. including 4 commercial parcels and the U of A Farm that had been there since approximately 1926. He has rezoned and improved the property that has exceptional commercial site characteristics including a mile of frontage road on I-10 with 2 interchanges and almost 6000 feet of property line along The Chuck Huckelberry Bike Loop.
Garry is an active member of the Tucson community:
